Category Marketing Director, Allergy / GI - Nutricia North America

The Category Director, Allergy / GI will be responsible for all marketing programs for the assigned category, focused on the Allergy / GI therapeutic area. This person will assume the leadership role in strategy and execution for the category’s marketing plan and will work closely with the senior leadership (Nutricia Leadership Team), Medical, Supply Chain, Sales, and other necessary functions to ensure that category’s products establish competitive positions in the market and executes the successful launch of new products. The Category Director, Allergy / GI is responsible for ultimately driving the category to achieve its sales and profit objectives.


Essential Functions:

  1. Business and Strategic Planning
    1. Leads the annual category plan process up to alignment with Global Senior management.
    2. Responsible for developing a vision for the category and leading the organization locally and globally to achieving that vision.
    3. Work with business managers of the assigned category on planning and goal setting including coordinating, developing, and executing sales and financial plans to present in company reports.
    4. Lead the development of strategic and AOP planning processes including projections, and strategic recommendations about the current and future positioning and execution of the category’s products.

 

  1. Marketing
    1. Plan, oversee, and approve the development of marketing tactics both off-line & on-line.  This includes Multi Channel Engagement campaign, both directed to consumers and HCPs, consumer programs, packaging, promotion initiatives, online tools, sales training material, consumer, customer, and health care practitioner communications.
    2. Lead advertising development and media planning process.
    3. Maintain a critical understanding of the competitive landscape and lead tactical responses to external and internal stimuli, including those originating from the market, economy, and government.
    4. Provides monthly competitive sales and activity updates on competition.
    5. Shares with team marketplace analysis including industry movement, trends and changes.
    6. Lead the introduction of new products, including developing pricing strategy and product information in response to customer needs and marketplace opportunities; approve product labeling, claims and marketing materials.
    7. Ensure consistency in the branding and messaging across all platforms: HCP, consumer & caregiver communications, marketing materials, online messaging, etc.
    8. Lead to the research process, prospecting research agencies, designing requests for proposals, overseeing research process, understanding insights, and generating follow-up metrics.
    9. Manages vendors, agencies and cross functional team members to develop packaging, brochures, inserts and professional materials.
    10. Coordinates and contributes to elements of the promotional calendar including webinars for HCPs, patient events, peer to peer events, HCP conventions, meetings, consumer conventions, and public relations.

 

  1. Communication
    1. In collaboration with Medical and Sales, represent the company at trade shows, expos, conventions, and industry meetings.
    2. Develop effective working relationships with key opinion leaders in the industry to gain product and corporate support.

 

  1. Innovation
    1. Create a strong pipeline of innovative products and services
    2. Work closely with Local & Global teams to gain support and secure resources
    3. Work with research and innovation team to see these through to fruition.

 

  1. Education
    1. Give appropriate input to Medical and Sales L&D for the training and the education of staff members including nutrition specialists, sales representatives, customer service, and any other staff requiring product education.
    2. Provide technical assistance to nutrition specialists and sales team to develop and provide appropriate and necessary product information.
    3. In collaboration with Medical and Sales, organize national accredited conferences and webinars comprised of key opinion leaders.

 

  1. People management
    1. Create, lead and develop a team of marketing professionals.

 

  1. Budgeting, Forecasting, Analysis
    1. Works with Supply Chain in the S&OP process to ensure accurate monthly forecasting and risk/opportunity projection.
    2. Create, implement and publish monthly business scorecard for specific projects using tracking system to monitor performance vs. results as required. Oversee monthly business reporting by Finance and ensure alignment with S&OP process. 
    3. In collaboration with Supply Chain, communicate forecast updates.
    4. Maintain overall brand budget and develop appropriate follow-up processes.
    5. Manage and monitor brand marketing expenses against budget on an ongoing basis.
    6. Facilitate monthly budget review, purchase process and expense submissions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of marketing strategies, marketing techniques, qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques and customer research.
  • Digital marketing savvy, both targeting consumers and HCPs
  • Substantial experience managing and developing a brand.
  • Demonstrable creative flair together with a strong track record of developing innovative marketing campaigns in all media.
  • Knowledge of project management best practices.
  • Skill with creative and adaptive planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation.
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing information.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions.
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility among Nutricia & Danone management and employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and administer marketing strategies.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at the same time. 


 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Category Director, Allergy / GI has 3 direct reports:  Senior Brand Manager, HCP Engagement, Senior Brand Manager, Consumer Engagement, and Digital Manager, Allergy / GI.  The position also has 1 dotted line report: Senior Brand Manager, Canada

 

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Business & Administration preferred
  • Experience in consumer products (FMCG), pharmaceutical or healthcare
  • 7+ years of corporate experience, including, 5 years’ experience in all aspects of developing and maintaining marketing strategies, and 2 years’ budgetary management (including annual budget formulation) and oversight experience
  • Experience in management of a large team (4+ employees)
  • Preferably cross-functional corporate experience including sales, supply chain/logistics and innovation experience 
  • Proven track record of initiative success
  • If currently employed, must be in good standing and have consistent demonstration of satisfactory performance

The base compensation range for this position is $160-170K.
