ABOUT THE JOB:

Quality, efficiency, and safety all play a big role in our work at Danone. Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for the Supply Chain team.   We are looking for a Senior Plant Director for our new greenfield plant located in Shelbyville, Indiana.  This is a brand new start up plant, currently under construction.  In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the startup and operations of a new site (approximately 300-350 associates and 6-8 production lines), while meeting all local, country, business unit and Danone operating and strategic goals for Danone North America’s Midwest manufacturing plant. You will lay the groundwork for the factory to become a high performing manufacturing site, starting with Safety and driving a culture of Quality and Continuous improvement.

Secondly, the nature of this facility is food manufacturing which creates the need for a Plant Director who is both operationally driven and business savvy.  You will be responsible for, along with the HR function, to recruit and appoint the leadership team, key positions and hourly employees with help from the central team to train the employees to do their job in a safe and professional manner. You will work closely with the relevant central functional teams to develop and implement different processes, procedures, and controls, as well as, owning the installation and startup of the manufacturing equipment.  This position has a direct line to the VP of Manufacturing and maintains a strong relationship with other corporate functional leaders.

 

Additionally in this role, you will:

  • Provide input to the factory masterplan and develop, with the help of the central team, a startup master plan.
  • Work with cross functional teams to ensure the design meets our Danone North America and Global requirements in terms of safety, sustainability, capacity, flow, expandability, quality and work conditions.
  • Work closely with Engineering to provide input for equipment and ensure that equipment is capable, safe to operate, hygienically designed and meets our requirements.
  • Challenge the layout, equipment to ensure the right design.
  • Work with Human Resources in the staffing of the facility.
  • Ensure all employees are properly trained to do their job.
  • Implement Damaway (TPM) from the start including the use of EEM (early equipment management) pillar.
  • Be a visible active leader who promotes a favorable, professional and productive environment for all associates keeping Danone’s values in mind.  Create a culture of ownership, inclusiveness, and employee participation.
  • Develop and maintain positive community relations relative to all aspects of plant interactions: wastewater treatment, utilities interactions, noise abatement, employment expansion planning, etc.
  • Support and ensure compliance of the facility with all Environmental, Health and Safety programs, policies, regulations and with Food Safety, Quality and Reliability conditions.
  • Own implementation of the Damaway (TPM) Leadership pillar.
  • Implement long and short-term performance metrics in line with Danone North America standards.
  • Ensure the highest level of commitment to Quality and provide assurance that all products are produced, prepared and handled according to our Quality standards and GMP.
  • Measure, track and maintain the controls and reports necessary to evaluate plant costs, quality and service levels for efficient and effective operations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong local talent pipeline and prepare succession planning for all positions.
  • Maintain lines of communication to all associates on company policies, suggestions, concerns, complaints and other issues defined by the company.

About you

ABOUT YOU: 

  • You have Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering, Business or related field from an accredited College or University, and a minimum ten (10) plus years of leadership experience in manufacturing, preferably in CPG beverage and/or food manufacturing environment, required.   Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification(s) a plus.
  • You have prior management of a large site or several sites with numerous direct reports
  • You have experience with factory start-up, preferred
  • You have budget and cost management experience, required
  • You have excellent Project Management experience.
  • You must be exceptionally organized and self-disciplined to accommodate the management of concurrent multiple projects, and be highly self-directed and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • You understand the essential value of engaging and actively communicating appropriate information to all levels involved with and/or affected by the project.
  • You have excellent conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
