PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Strategize Sustainability / PA program(s) for Danone Japan, leveraging B Corp certification and aligning with Danone Japan’s vision. Anticipate and tackle major public issues relevant to the business context, provide insights into business in a timely manner, and advocate to navigate Danone’s business, by managing relations with external specific influential stakeholders relevant to Danone Japan’s business priorities: public authorities, policy makers, NGOs, industry/trade associations and scientific KOLs as well as DANONE INSTITUTE OF JAPAN FOUNDATION (DIJF)  https://www.danone-institute.or.jp/

 

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Main responsibilities

  • Develop 3-year B Corp Certification Cycle Strategic (Improvement) Plan as well as promote Danone Way project (Danone’s sustainability expectations), aligning with the global GS PA team
  • Animate Danone Japan Vision internally and externally, closely collaborating with Communications function and DIJF
  • Closely work with Global PA team to implement/localize global wide project(s) as a project leader, assessing the value of the projects and impact on Danone Japan
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communication function to secure stakeholder support and build alliances with industry partners and/or NGOs; represent us in trade associations and stakeholder platforms, leveraging existing opportunities or creating new ones, and mobilizing resources
  • Monitor, engage and advocate on a portfolio of priority policies focused on plastics, packaging, circular economy, food systems, climate, nature and seek new innovative and collaborative ways to advocate so that the company can be influential in these areas

About you

CAPABILITY PROFILE – Required Background

Education background

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced Degree in public policy, international affairs, Journalism /Communications and/or similar preferred.

Technical Skills and Experiences required

  • Min. 8 years of related professional/Public Affairs and/or Communications experience gained in Japan in a similar role preferably in a multinational company or, a Public Affairs firm, PR agency or industry association.
  • Significant experience and network in public affairs, environment, sustainability, food and consumer health policy issues; leading advocacy campaigns / event management and working in cross-functional team and business leaders
  • Experience in working in a matrix organization and leadership without a direct mandate both as a team member and a single contributor
  • Experience of company representation in industry/trade associations

 

Competencies to be successful on the job

 

  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications function to secure stakeholder support on various projects internally/externally
  • Build alliances with industry partners and/or NGOs; represent us in trade associations and stakeholder platforms, leveraging existing opportunities or creating new ones, and mobilizing resources
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of sustainability, ESG, creating shared value (CSV), CSR, community development and social impact
  • Ability to inspire and engage KOL in Danone’s interests
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills as well as flexibility to manage complexity/ambiguity
