The Danone Advanced Technology Team is one of the global Research and Innovation Teams of Danone. Its mission is to DELIVER BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGIES TO CREATE VALUE, BENEFITING PEOPLE AND PLANET!


More specifically, the Advanced Technologies - Ingredients department oversees developing innovative ingredients and providing expertise in the various categories of existing and emerging ingredients, as well as anticipating scientific and technological solutions through the promotion and development of our ecosystem. 



1.      Missions


Within Advanced Techno Ingredients, the ANALYTICAL SCIENCES team has the responsibility to :  

  • Provide analytical expertise and solutions for R&I projects including:  
    • Characterization of raw materials, ingredients, ferments, finished products and packaging materials. 
    • Physico-chemical, sensory, and microbiological analysis 
    • Quality and food safety risk assessment 
    • Understanding and optimizing formulas and processes 
  • Develop analytical methods/methodologies to meet the needs of all Groupe Danone players (R&I, Quality, plants), in conjunction with national and international standardization organizations. 
  • Build and lead a network of analytical and scientific experts (academics, suppliers) 
  • Identify and monitor the performance of external laboratories and ensure the availability and management of a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) tool in compliance with Danone Research quality standards. 
  • Provide expert support and analytical solutions to Operations teams when managing Production and/or Quality issues. 


In this context, the main mission of the Analytical Chemistry Jr Scientist is to:  


  • Develop and adapt analytical methods in liquid chromatography and tool boxes to support efficiently R&I project
  • Guarantee technical recommendations and technology transfer to external laboratories in the field of liquid chromatography.  
  • Build a network by identifying emerging technologies and potential scientific collaborations in his/her field of interest. 
  • Ensure technical and bibliographical watch in the field of non-volatile compound analysis and technical innovations in liquid chromatography. 
  • Capitalize on data and results to enhance reactivity.  
  • Manage apparatus with solid technical skills in Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry. 



2.      Main Responsabilities


  • Is responsible for leading one or more analytical work packages/projects in chemistry/biochemistry: development, comparison, fine-tuning of methods, optimization for Danone matrices (extraction, purification, separation by liquid chromatography coupled with several kind of detectors including mass spectrometry). 
  • Provides molecular expertise to R&I teams for the identification of key levers that can be activated to optimize dairy, plant, infant and beverage product formulas and industrial processes via the analytical characterization of ingredients, intermediates and finished products in relation to sensory and consumer preference. 
  • Guarantees the quality of the analytical results delivered: method validation, application of good laboratory and traceability practices, scientific interpretation based on molecular knowledge. 
  • Participates in the resolution of issues/crisis related to products and/or ingredients of interest to Danone with the appropriate levels of responsiveness and performance. 
  • Develops expertise in the field of analytical chemistry and biochemistry to advance the themes for which he/she is responsible: monitoring scientific and technical articles, participating in international conferences, maintaining networks of experts, making proposals concerning the operation of laboratories and analytical techniques. 
  • Ensures the implementation of safety standards within his/her area of responsibility.

  • Is the ambassador of analytical sciences in his/her field of expertise.  
  • Trains technicians and trainees in Danone-specific methods and good laboratory practice.

About you


5.      Skills required


  • Scientific level: Master's degree in analytical chemistry or biochemistry (Bac +5) 
  • A first significant experience in analytical research and more specifically in Liquid Chromatography (LC) 
  • Technical skills required:  
    • Extraction and separative techniques (HPLC/UPLC) coupled with different kind of detectors (UV,Fluo, RI, …)
    • Technical knowledge in ionic and size exclusion chromatography
    • Good knowledge in enzymatic assays
    • Experience in LC-MS coupling would be a plus
  • Knowledge in food processing and food biochemistry (carbohydrates, fat, proteins), ideally in enzymology
  • First Experience in food research in an industrial context would be a plus. 
  • Understanding of strategic issues and business needs 
  • Reactivity, rigor, autonomy, initiative, curiosity, proactivity, teamwork. 
  • Strong oral and written English skills. French a plus
  • Relational and communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional and international context.
