Internship – Regenerative Agriculture Projects

About the job

Food systems need to be transformed to be fit for the future. People are increasingly conscious of the environmental and social impacts of their food choices. In parallel, new scientific studies are defining "sustainable diets" that can provide healthy and nutritious food to the growing world population while respecting environmental limits.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, Danone submitted its 1.5C SBTi FLAG target and in January 2023, the company took a global commitment to align with the Global methane pledge and reduce by 30% its methane emissions from fresh milk used in its dairy products between 2020-2030. GHG monitoring, reporting and verification standards and processes are critical to be able to capture GHG emissions reductions. Alongside delivering on this critical climate agenda, Regenerative agriculture has a lead role to play in protecting and improving soil health, biodiversity, and water resources, while promoting animal welfare and supporting farming resilience and long-term profitability. It is a critical enabler to deliver on Danone Impact Journey. The Regenerative agriculture team is working in partnership with farmers and suppliers to transform our sourcing models towards regenerative agriculture and enable continuous improvement on sustainability.

 In this role, you will be part of the Global regenerative agriculture Team, who is responsible for global Regenerative Agriculture initiatives to transform our sourcing models towards regenerative agriculture and enable continuous improvement on farm performance and sustainability. Through supporting this team you will be exposed to a wide and diverse range of agricultural sustainability topics within agronomy including animal and people welfare and the environment. Your main mission is to support the implementation of some of the Regenerative Agriculture initiatives under the supervision of the Regenerative Agriculture program Director and the Sustainability Project Manager.

 So, what will be your key responsibilities?

  • Support the deployment of Danone Regenerative agriculture roadmaps by collecting, analysing and reporting results of assessments and on-farm projects (including CO2 footprint, Regenerative agriculture score, Animal welfare score, feed autonomy, economics, etc.)
  • Maintain database/playbook of Sourcing profiles and Danone Reg Ag projects across ingredients through project owners' consultation and countries profiles (regional and local teams in Noram, Latam, EU and Africa)
  • Support the team in organizing webinars and drafting communication materials to valorise these projects internally and externally (e.g. Upskilling program, Regenerative agriculture knowledge center)

About you

So, who are we looking for? We are looking for a student (ideally you are nearing the end of your studies) in a field which gives you relevant skills for the role (e.g. Agriculture, Agronomics, Environmental Sciences or related). You have a team player attitude while being confident working autonomously in a complex work environment and you are not afraid to communicate with multiple stakeholders and facilitate information effectively. You are a fast learner, thriving in an environment where you can solve problems and be continuously challenged.  You are rigorous and proficient with data consolidation and analysis (Excel is a must, Power BI would be an asset) and Powerpoint. Furthermore, you have strong synthesis and analytical skills with both attention to details and capacity to have a helicopter view.

Next to this, there are a few hard requirements:

  • Enrolled as a Bachelors/Masters student during the whole internship period (if you are a non-EU citizen, you need to be enrolled at a Dutch university);
  • You can start in the beginning of September 2024 for a minimum of 6 months (full time);
  • You are perfectly fluent in English – written and spoken;
  • You are able to work from our office in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands at least 2 days a week.
