Quality, efficiency, and safety all play a big role in our work at Danone.  Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for the Supply Chain team.   We are looking for an Engineering Director for our new Shelbyville (Southwest of Indianapolis), Indiana Greenfield manufacturing plant.  In this role, you will be responsible to lead the plant's engineering team and support all strategic, operational and policy aspects of the plant in the areas of safety, quality, performance, management, and organizational objectives.  You will be responsible for assisting in the new plant design, managing construction activities and contractors, development of plant commissioning plans and building out the plant operations staff.  You will manage capital projects with budgets of up to $100 million dollars and will work independently in a fast-paced project environment.  A successful engineering director will be skilled in communicating, organizing, and negotiating with all levels of plant and corporate teams including operations, corporate finance, quality, safety, and innovation.  This role reports to corporate engineering with dotted line reporting to the Plant Director.   


Additionally in this role, you will:  

  • Be a member of the Plant Leadership team 

  • Be the owner of the plant capital master plan and long-term plant growth strategy 

  • Act as Engineering liaison between the facility internal customers and corporate leadership to:  

  • Attend facility leadership meetings  

  • Act as the Plant’s point of contact for Engineering Projects 

  • Assist in communicating and coordinating long / short term engineering strategies  

  • Provide technical assistance as required  

  • Provide project management leadership and expertise for all capital projects including processing, packaging, innovation, building and utility projects: 

  • Identifies, creates, and leads efforts to draft and submit necessary documents for CAPEX approval including scope of work documents 

  • Review and evaluate Capital Projects Contracts 

  • Create POs (Purchase Orders) for Capital Projects 

  • Coordinate and lead multi-functional teams within the project 

  • Track and manage Capital and Project Expense  

  • Manages project schedules, budgets and cashflows 

  • Assigns, schedules, directs, and inspects the work of contractors and vendors engaged in project work   

  • Checks and reports on progress and for conformance to project work plans and orders   

  • Review production, quality control, distribution and maintenance reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to plan, modify, and redirect project and capital activities, as needed  

  • Coordinate and lead multi-functional teams 

  • Edit and advise on Danone’s Standards 

  • Respond to emergency calls, as needed  

About you


  • You will have a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering, Science or Mathematics field from an accredited College or University, required.  Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification(s) and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.  


  • You will have a minimum ten (10) to fifteen (15) years engineering project experience required.  Prior engineering experience in CPG beverage/food manufacturing is required.  Prior experience with Greenfield site construction and large capital projects is a plus.  


  • You will have experience managing capital projects, CAPEX forecasting and payback calculations and have experience with development of Call for Tender documents including, Technical Specifications, Commercial Specifications and Standards 


  • You will have strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, Excel, and AutoCAD. 


  • You are exceptionally organized and self-disciplined to accommodate the management of concurrent multiple projects and must be highly self-directed and able to work independently as well as part of a team. 


  • You understand the essential value of engaging and actively communicating appropriate information to all levels involved with and/or affected by the project and have excellent conflict resolution and interpersonal skills 


You have knowledge on the following:  

  • Reading, modifying, process flow and process instrumentation drawings 

  • Design, Calculation, Implementation and Start Up of CIP (Clean in Place) Systems. 

  • Ability to prepare plans and detailed reports and to maintain records.  

  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of contractors.  

  • Solid engineering technical base refined with broad corporate and plant experience  

  • Strong general knowledge of plant operations   

  • Exposure to ESL/aseptic and food safety regulations – PMO, 3A and FDA   

  • Solid exposure to food and beverage packaging & processing equipment  

  • Ability to analyze, compare, and recommend engineering proposals 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Demonstrated problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills  

  • Knowledge of utility/facilities/building and grounds management with large ammonia refrigeration systems.
