Job Summary:
At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Maintenance Director based in our West Jordan, Utah, yogurt manufacturing plant! The Maintenance Director is responsible for leading the maintenance and reliability strategy for all facilities, utilities, and storeroom operations for the site. This role ensures optimal performance, efficiency, and reliability of critical infrastructure while driving cost-effective maintenance practices and productivity improvements. The incumbent will own the performance of all utilities, oversee storeroom management, and control overall maintenance costs to support operational goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:
As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in driving our mission forward. The following responsibilities outline the core expectations and contributions for this position:

 

Maintenance & Reliability Strategy:

  • Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies for facilities and utility systems.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track equipment reliability, downtime, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate IWS Leadership and lead site PM Pillar
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Facilities, Utilities & Cost Management:

  • Own the performance, efficiency, and reliability of all utilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, steam, water, and backup power systems.
  • Develop and execute strategies to optimize energy consumption, reduce waste, and improve sustainability in utility operations.
  • Monitor and control overall maintenance costs, ensuring budget compliance while maximizing efficiency.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities by improving asset reliability, optimizing labor productivity, and reducing unplanned downtime.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams to develop annual maintenance budgets and track expenditures.
  • Provide leadership for the development and implementation of cost-saving projects (fixed, variable and marginal income).  
  • Provide long and short-range plans for project development, systems analysis, and necessary engineering support resources.  
  • Control technical expenditures within budget requirements by monitoring expenditures, adjusting priorities, and forecasting future engineering requests.
  • Manage all available technical resources (internal and external) to ensure timely and cost-effective achievement of plant priorities.  

Storeroom & Inventory Management:

  • Oversee storeroom operations, ensuring proper organization, inventory control, and availability of critical spare parts.
  • Implement inventory management best practices to minimize stockouts, reduce excess inventory, and control carrying costs.
  • Work with procurement to optimize vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely delivery of maintenance supplies.
  • Utilize CMMS to track spare parts usage, automate reordering, and improve overall inventory accuracy.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:

  • Develop and manage a proactive maintenance program to reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset life cycle performance.
  • Implement predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and oil analysis.
  • Maintain a robust CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for work order management and asset tracking.
  • Direct planning and scheduling programs and their effectiveness through the use of established benchmarks and parameters.
  • Develop effective liaison with network and corporate staff to enhance planning for efficient use of property and equipment.  
  • Participate and accept responsibility for meeting the plant and individual goals and monthly spreadsheet responsibilities.  

Productivity & Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze maintenance workflows and technician productivity to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement Lean, IWS (Integrated Work Systems) and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by standardizing maintenance procedures and training employees on best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge and skill of self and team members.  

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements related to facilities, utilities, and maintenance.
  • Maintain compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and other industry standards where applicable.
  • Promote a culture of safety by ensuring proper training and procedures are in place for maintenance personnel.
  • Direct activities of the Technical Department in a manner that achieves quality standards and targeted goals in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner.  
  • Ensure the plant operates in a safe and environmentally responsible manner while achieving high productivity and low costs.  

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, storeroom personnel, and reliability engineers.
  • Develop training programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge of team members.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with operational and business goals.
  • Create, review, and evaluate the sites' overall organization/responsibilities and their effectiveness to correct deficiencies as identified.  
  • Provide timely and effective communication of the status of technical projects/issues and team accomplishments. 

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk and hear. The employee will lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moderate noise and temperature variations. Occasional work at heights required. Work schedules could include nights, weekends and/or holidays to provide the ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate. PPE required, safety-first culture.

Ensure adherence to plant standards and procedures (including but not limited to GMP, AIB, FDA, IWS, Quality, Safety, Finance, ISO, HOPE, Danone Behaviors, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE). As a fundamental piece of the organization, your responsibility is to participate and own the implementation and deployment of IWS system and its pillars (Leadership foundation, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE; Autonomous Maintenance; planned Maintenance; Focused Improvement; Education and Training; Environmental, Health and Safety; Quality; Organization; Supply Network; Early Equipment Management) with the objective of owning your space, owning your performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Mobilization, Nature) and owning your continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, experience, and skills that enable them to excel in this position. The following qualifications outline what we’re looking for, including both required and preferred criteria:

 

Education & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.  A degree in an engineering discipline or related field, and/or advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years’ management experience in a manufacturing environment, serving in a technical, maintenance or operational capacity, required.  
  • Experience within a food/beverage/dairy or high-speed CPG manufacturing environment is required.
  • Prior processing experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in leading and managing technical disciplines and budgets in a large/multi-site manufacturing organization is essential.  
  • Formal project management training or certifications is desired.
  • Operational expertise with IWS and/or TPM principles (i.e., pillars, systems and standard work) is highly desired.
  • Strong background in driving performance through improvements in reliability, reduction in losses, etc. via non-capital-intensive measures.
  • Adept at working in traditional Engineering and Maintenance support programs such as AutoCAD, MS Project, SAP PM (or equivalent CMMS)
  • Experience in developing individuals and building high performance teams.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effectively influences stakeholders at all levels to deliver performance improvements in environments without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Ability to prioritize plant operations in light of multiple priorities and conflicting demands.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP’s - to include regulations which govern food products.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures regarding chemicals, equipment/machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent negotiation skills including an ability to understand sensitive situations.
  • Ability to be a team player with an ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate.  Work schedules could include day, night or weekends as needed.
