ABOUT THE JOB:

 

At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Packaging Supervisor – days based in our yogurt manufacturing plant in West Jordan, Utah. 

 

In this role, you will support the operations within our packaging cell through managing and mobilizing a team of hourly associates to ensure Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals are met and to ensure compliance with all SOP’s, QAR’s, Plant Standards (including GMP, AIB, FDA, DaMaWay, Quality, Safety Finance, ISO and non-conformance management).  You will be responsible for the operational performance of your assigned shift and will drive accountability through strong leadership and setting consistent expectations and promoting a positive team atmosphere, working cross functionally with other departments to ensure production requirements are met and championing involvement of all employees.

 

Work Schedule is 6AM - 6PM every other Wednesday, Thursday - Saturday.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Regular, formal, and informal evaluations and feedback of the performance of hourly associates
  • Validation of time and attendance through daily and weekly reviews of your employee timecards utilizing the Dayforce payroll system.
  • Addressing employee concerns; elevate to next level leadership as needed.
  • Administer discipline as required for job performance, attendance or any other non-bargaining unit and bargaining unit contract violations.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with in-coming operators in front of daily management board(s) to discuss topics related to previous shift, SQCDMN metrics, and general plant communication.
  • Study manufacturing production and shipping schedules, identify gaps and risks while collaborating with the manager and peers to balance work schedule.
  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the department
  • Improving and maintaining communicated performance standards for the department; managing with the flexibility to react as needed when breakdowns arise.
  • Performing root cause analysis, problem solving, and follow-up related to operational and safety incidents within the department.
  • Develop root cause analysis using 5-Why, Fishbone diagram, etc. to re-align operational performance with goals and objectives.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement efforts including but not limited to AM, PM management, 5S, DMS, etc.
  • Ensure sound communication systems are in place so all employees are aware and can participate in continuous improvement of the operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About you

ABOUT YOU:  (all are required, except where noted as preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, within an engineering field (chemical, mechanical, electrical, chemical or industrial) and have at least 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing / packaging environment required.  Candidates must also have at least 2 years manufacturing environment, required.  Candidates who do not have a completed bachelor’s degree will be considered if they have at least 5 years manufacturing experience.
  • You have demonstrated continuous improvement and/or lean manufacturing experience.
  • You have quantitative analysis skills including the ability to manage and understanding budgeting and loss analysis.
  • You have familiarity with CIP/HAACP/AIB (preferred)
  • You are self-motivated and a self-starter and can work independently toward departmental objectives with minimal direction.
  • You are flexible, adaptable, persistent and resilient, resourceful, proactive and have ability to stay calm under stressful situations. 
  • You have strong leadership skills, strong influential ability and have strong interpersonal and communication skills required to interact successfully with all levels of plant and organization, as well as to develop and coach teams.
  • You are analytical and have demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting, conflict management and decision-making skills; ability to make decisions with limited information and to handle uncertainty and change.
  • You have organization skills, ability to schedule activity, and are process-oriented; able to identify process improvements and implement change successfully.
  • You have experience of implementing continuous improvement processes (Lean, TPM, ...) particularly for improving reliability of equipment.
  • You have knowledge of inventory and preventative maintenance systems
  • You have exceptional verbal/written communication skills, are organized, keen awareness to detail, and have effective time management and prioritization skills, and a solid work ethic.
  • You have ability to work 12-hour shifts and have ability to support a 24/7 production environment as business needs dictate.  Work schedules could include day or night shift schedules, and occasional weekends as business needs dictate.

Physical Demands

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; taste and/or smell, talk and hear.
  • Ability to bend & stoop at waist level as well as bend & twist neck and head.
  • The employee must regularly endure repetitive minimal to moderate lifting 10 lbs. up to 52 lbs and occasionally lift to 75 lbs. Requires normal range of hearing and vision (including colors) to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and results.
  • Occasionally may need to climb on stairs, step ladders, stool.
