Job Summary
At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams.   We are currently looking to hire a Utilities Maintenance Leader based in our yogurt manufacturing plant in West Jordan, Utah!  

 

The Utilities Maintenance Leader oversees day-to-day operations, repairs, and maintenance support for plant utility systems, including ammonia and glycol refrigeration, steam boilers, air compressors, electrical distribution, sewer systems, cooling towers, water treatment, HVAC, and facility infrastructure. The role is directly accountable for progressive maintenance pillar activities and for leading the mechanics who support the business unit. This position requires 60% to 80% of time providing floor leadership, including daily coaching to strengthen mechanic skills and reinforce behaviors that drive performance and compliance with plant programs, processes, and policies. The Utilities Maintenance Leader also develops and supports planned maintenance strategies that advance safety, engagement, quality, cost control, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities
As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in driving our mission forward. The following responsibilities outline the core expectations and contributions for this position:

  • Works with the Maintenance Director to implement systems, projects, programs, and staffing aimed at achieving departmental mission and long-term objectives.
  • Owns Breakdown Elimination, Defect Handling, & Planning and Scheduling. Coach teams through effective execution of these processes and builds capability and ownership of these systems down to the team level over time.      
  • Create daily assignments for mechanics on each shift that support planned maintenance and loss elimination initiatives.  Focuses on engaging mechanics in proactive work that will improve line predictability/stability.  
  • Support off-shift critical work and emergency repairs where required  
  • Monitor metrics, develop plans, and propose solutions for improvement
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process, support cost goals, and identify productivity opportunities
  • Lead loss elimination programs in utilities area
  • Support Planned Maintenance Pillar, System and Tools implementation
  • Support Systems and Equipment Ownership capability development
  • Lead and Support Early Equipment Management Activities, including possible startup leadership for projects within their area
  • Ensure all equipment/machinery is entered into CMMS
  • Create and maintain machine bill of materials
  • Provide weekly/monthly work order cost analysis report to Maintenance Director
  • Develop, implement and execute Predictive/Preventive maintenance procedures and plans
  • Monitor equipment performance, investigate asset failures, analyze data, and develop and execute action plans to improve asset reliability
  • Analyze, identify, recommend, and implement solutions for reducing utilities downtime, and non-value-added activities
  • Lead and facilitate RCA/BDE Root Causes Analysis/ Break Down Elimination, and assist in the development of the capital plan for cost reduction-related projects to support business objectives
  • Ensures that environmental systems operate within permit guidelines and that audits of these systems are performed

Physical Demands

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; taste and/or smell, talk and hear.
  • Ability to bend & stoop at waist level as well as bend & twist neck and head.
  • The employee must regularly endure repetitive minimal to moderate lifting 10lbs up to 50lbs and occasional team lifting above 50lbs. Requires normal range of hearing and vision (including colors) to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and results.
  • The employee is frequently standing on a concrete surface for 8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts
  • Occasionally may need to climb on stairs, step ladders, stool.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.

About you

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, experience, and skills that enable them to excel in this position. The following qualifications outline what we’re looking for, including both required and preferred criteria:

 

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in a utility focused role responsible for ammonia refrigeration, steam boiler, and air compressor operations and maintenance.
  •  3+ years’ manufacturing experience with demonstrated technical aptitude and leadership
  • Experience working with a CMMS system like MVP, SAP, Maximo 
  • Experienced in supervising support personnel

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Fundamental knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment
  • Ability to identify problems, draw conclusions, and make recommended solutions
  • Ability to be self-directed with little supervision
  • Understand TPM and continuous improvement methods
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Availability to be on call nights and/or weekends as required
  • Working knowledge of screw compressors, electrical troubleshooting all common types of ammonia central systems, & control/alarm systems, water tube and fire tube boilers, and compressed air systems
  • HAZ-MAT training
  • RETA 1&2 certification a plus
  • Process Safety Management training
  • Ability to adjust schedule to support 24/7 Manufacturing Operation; may include working graveyard shift and/or weekends as needed.
