About the job

Seeking an innovative role in product development within the dairy sector? We are hiring a Senior Product Technologist based in Melbourne. You will play a central role in leading end-to-end new product development and supporting the NPD strategy.

Reporting directly to the R&I & Sustainability Manager, you will oversee enhancements to existing products and drive productivity initiatives throughout the business, from initial concept through to launch (renovation). You will be accountable for delivering product development outcomes and packaging solutions aligned with business objectives, collaborating across cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards as defined by the business.

Your responsibilities will also include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the technical development of products and packaging, aligning with the company's growth and sustainability goals.
  • Enhance milk science and technology processes to ensure effective product creation.
  • Develop outstanding products by transforming ideas into practical formulations that maintain quality over their shelf life.
  • Manage projects from the initial scope through to launch, covering design, development, and implementation.
  • Apply expertise in packaging materials and formats to assess their effects on food, finished products, and equipment.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of food safety, quality, and regulations, and consistently incorporate these factors into new product development.
  • Contribute technical skills to support ongoing factory improvement initiatives, demonstrating proficiency in PDCA, Kaizen, RCA, TQM, and TPM processes.

About you

As an experienced product development technologist, you bring valuable technical expertise, effective teamwork, and excellent people skills. Your background in fast-paced dairy or food manufacturing environments, along with your agile work style, are strong assets. Additionally, you're skilled at building relationships and maintaining a positive outlook.

To be successful you will also have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering/Food Science/Dairy Science/Life Science/Human Nutrition or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role within the dairy industry is highly desired
  • Good Excel and MS Office suite skills will be preferred 
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Sound planning and organization skills with an ability to work with shifting priorities
