About the job

Candidate Profile:

Counsel’s primary role and passion is overseeing the company’s compliance and HR investigations program: directing HR investigations, conducting privileged investigations, developing and executing on risk mitigation strategies.   Counsel will also advise the Human Resources Business Partner team on typical employment law issues such as: leave, accommodation, conduct, disciplinary and termination matters.  This position will assist the Vice-President & Associate General Counsel – Compliance and Employment with other projects and assignments as directed. Counsel must be comfortable working with employees and management at all levels of the organization and handle difficult and sensitive topics professionally and with objectivity. The position is fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented and rewarding. Counsel must be able to work well under pressure, be organized and able to work autonomously.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and continue to develop the HR and Compliance investigations program:
    • Develop and enhance hotline and investigations processes, templates and guidelines to ensure objectivity and consistency across the company
    • Oversee NORAM investigations reporting and metrics
    • Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations and provide detailed reports that allow the department to determine corrective actions
    • Review HR investigation reports, provide legal advice as needed to reach appropriate resolution
    • Provide training on the investigative process and related topics
    • Monitor and report on trends, conduct root cause analysis, identify HR and management training and development needs
  • Investigate and respond to employment-related state and federal administrative complaints and demand letters
  • Provide well-reasoned and concise advice on short notice without undue reliance on outside counsel
  • Develop professional relationships within the HR community, managing sensitive and confidential information discreetly, while proactively assessing areas of potential policy/compliance risk, identifying and executing on risk mitigation strategies.

 

The base compensation range for this position is $140.000-$165,000 commensurate with experience. About you

 

Requirements:

  • JD from ABA accredited law school and active license to practice law in U.S. required.
  • Minimum of 5 years practice in labor and employment. Prior in-house experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of employment law related or corporate compliance investigations experience.
  • Experience in handling complex employment law matters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, ability to distill complex legal issues into simple terms.
  • Excellent time management, project management and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact, coach, and influence with all levels of the organization, work effectively across multiple groups and solve problems.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed, for critical events and investigations.
  • Microsoft Office capabilities, including power point, excel, and word.
