We have a fantastic vacancy for a strong Health and Safety Manager to join our state-of-the-art production facility in Balclutha within a versatile team. In this role, you will take ownership of workplace safety strategies, ensuring adherence to all safety standards, and making continual improvements and recommendations to maintain a high standard of safety. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will ensure maximum safety compliance while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.

This is a permanent full-time position.

 

You will:

  • Lead safety strategies to maintain a zero-harm workplace.
  • Ensure thorough awareness and understanding of all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Report and follow up on any incidents that occur on-site, making recommendations to prevent repeat incidents.
  • Check, report, and improve our safety dialogue system, and create and communicate weekly safety contacts to different departments.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our processes, people, and site remain a safe place to work.
  • Lead and implement the continuous improvement program for the entire value stream using standard tools such as 5S, TPM, SMED, and Six Sigma.
  • Oversee and review site security protocols for adherence and improvements.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety related training is organized and recorded for each team member.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for team members and leaders on-site.
  • Plan and implement a training program for all staff to meet safety standards.
  • Develop and manage the H&S communication for the site and be responsible for updates to the leadership team and committee.

About you

Ideally, you will have:

  • Relevant Health and Safety qualification, preferably a postgraduate degree in Engineering, Food Science, or Manufacturing.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in Health and Safety within a large complex business environment.
  • Experience in a dairy or food manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Proven ability to communicate well at all levels of stakeholders.
  • Project Management skills essential.
  • Technical expertise in safety system implementation at a manufacturing plant.
  • Mechanical aptitude is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Safety Standards (New Zealand).
  • Computer literacy in Excel and Word.
  • Accurate and legible written communication skills.
