POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a working Lead, this position is responsible to lead other mechanics in the performance of maintenance activities which support the entire Springfield Danone operation, ensuring the plant is maintained in a safe, efficient manner, in accordance with plant safety protocol and operational procedures, to minimize downtime and increase operating efficiencies. Incumbent coaches other to and performs proactive troubleshooting, effective and timely communication, and resolution of equipment performance issues with both the Maintenance and Operations teams. The incumbent is self-motivated, cooperative, reliable, patient, considerate, respectful, and passionate about the work that needs to be done and be able/willing to flex schedule based on business needs. This position is responsible for leading employees through organizing daily tasks and provides guidance and encouragement to produce the highest quality goods. Works with a team of employees and ensures proper standard operating procedures are being carried out and plant and team goals are being met. Follows all safety procedures as stated in GMP, safety standards, plant rules, and code of conduct.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
• Maintains a safe working environment, functioning as a member of a cooperative team and encourages participation in leading safety work.
• Responsible for ensuring maintenance safety and quality standards are being followed by team members.
• Performs work assignments timely and thoroughly often with minimal supervision, cleaning, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing/replacing worn mechanical or electrical parts.
• Safely performs lockout tagout (LOTO) and all other maintenance safety programs, including but not limited to, ARC flash, confined space, chemical safety, and working at heights.
• Coordinates team members and work activities to meet business objectives.
• Completes work via work orders, emergency repairs, and frequent line walks to identify required repairs and logs all work completed into the maintenance management system.
• Inspects, tests, measures, executes, and monitors completed work to ensure operational stability and reduce downtime.
• Communicates frequently and thoroughly with other departments and people at all levels of the organization.
• Troubleshoots a wide range of equipment operation deficiencies, identifies contributing factors, and makes corrections efficiently and effectively.
• Performs effective and thorough maintenance troubleshooting and repairs, demonstrating a high level of independence and understanding of equipment (production and shop).
• Completes requisitions for materials and supplies.
• Interprets specifications, blueprints, schematics, and work orders to perform and or assist in troubleshooting or repairs.
• Provides training to Mechanics, Production Operators, and other interested parties, as needed.
• Performs all the responsibilities and tasks of a Master Mechanic.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Manufacturing Preventative/Predictive and Corrective Maintenance
• Must be able to discern wire colors for safety.
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication, presentation, organizing, prioritizing and implementation skills.
• Ability to execute basic electrical, plumbing, structural and mechanical repairs as needed from time to time.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and coordinate efforts around process improvement.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills associated with developing trusting relationships.
• Must have excellent multi-tasking, organizational, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Possess the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to work in a fluid environment.
• The successful candidate will be self-motivated, cooperative, reliable, patient, considerate, respectful, and passionate about the work that needs to be done. They must have a consistent work history and be able/willing to flex schedule based on business needs
• Technical skills in mechanical, pneumatics, liquid flow, piping, steam, Refrigeration, Lubrication, electrical and some controls is needed to bring equipment back to like-new condition.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must be able to adjust schedule to support 24/7 manufacturing, may include working hours outside of a typical day shift, including weekends as needed.
• Wear personal protective equipment daily; continuously reach, push/pull; frequently twist; occasionally stoop/bend; intermittently crouch, climb, and balance; use hands for repetitive fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and simple grasp; and talk and hear under noisy conditions. Visual acuity and taste to discern product variation.
• Must have the ability to apply common sense and understanding when carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Must have the ability to effectively and efficiently prioritize and organize various tasks.
• Must have the ability to demonstrate superb decision-making skills to determine the best course of action when performing the responsibilities of the job
• Must demonstrate the ability to identify potential challenges within the process and when to notify leadership to prevent process failures
• Working conditions frequently includes a cool indoor food production environment and occasional freezer environment, and intermittent outdoor environment. Clean environment, requiring hand washing every time you go on the floor 20+/- times a day.

About you

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE – REQUIRED:
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Perform skilled repair and maintenance operations, using equipment such as hand and power tools, hydraulic presses and shears, welding equipment, electronic diagnostic, as well as miscellaneous fabrication equipment. ,
• Minimum of 5 years working in a food manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated intermediate ability in the following:
o Mechanical/electrical systems troubleshooting,
o Pneumatical systems,
o Steam Systems,
o Electrical control systems and devices.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE – PREFERRED:
• Possess a certification or training in a mechanical or technical field, with emphasis in mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, refrigeration/HVAC, metal work, or fabrication.
• Intermediate to advanced PLC/controls skills, i.e., demonstrated ability to navigate and decipher ladder logic programs to aid in troubleshooting.
• Experience reading technical manuals and one-line diagrams.
• Experience using a multimeter and other electrical and mechanical troubleshooting equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot a wide range of equipment operation deficiencies, identify contributing factors, and correct efficiently and effectively.
• Knowledge of multimeters for electrical troubleshooting is necessary.
• Experience reading technical manuals and one-line diagrams.
• Intermediate to advanced PLC/controls skills.
• Demonstrated intermediate skills and/or experience in the following:
o Mechanical troubleshooting,
o Pneumatic system controls,
o Electrical controls and devices,
o Refrigeration troubleshooting
