About the job

The Packaging Engineer is responsible to support innovation, renovation, sustainability, productivity, and business continuity projects on cross functional teams.

In this role you will be accountable for:

  • Develop primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
  • Deliver food packaging projects under mentorship of senior members of packaging team
  • Demonstrate creativity/innovation in the development of packaging systems
  • Research and develop new packaging materials, shapes, and assemblies in support of the Danone portfolio of brands and products
  • Aid in the delivery of Food Packaging reform productivity goals
  • Protect security of supply by ensuring dual supply in critical pack formats
  • Ability to challenge the status quo to achieve Danone Impact Journey (DIJ) sustainability goals
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, plants, co-manufacturers, and other sources of applicable technologies.
  • Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the packaging specifications.
  • Organize and conducts trials in an industrial environment.
  • Ensure development of new technical & material concepts for packaging solutions via collaboration with internal and external experts

The base compensation range for this position is $62,000-92,000 commensurate with experience. About you

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum (Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering science)
  • 0-2+ years’ experience in a packaging engineering field (preferably in the food or beverage industry)
  • Experience in at least (2) of the following packaging categories gained through Co-ops and internship opportunities is required.  Knowledge in other pack areas gained through course work desired.
    • Corrugate
    • Paperboard
    • Films: Pouches, shrink sleeve, lidding materials
    • Rigid Plastics: preformed cups, bottles, and caps
    • Roll-formed plastics
  • Ability to look at the entire packaging life cycle from vendor through consumer
  • Understanding of cold chain distribution systems
  • Prioritization and organizational skills
  • Lateral thinking and problem solving
  • Detail oriented and ability to learn in a fast pace environment
  • Experience in the use of statistical tools for problem solving a plus
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.
