We have an opening for a Quality Lab Supervisor based in Bridgeton, NJ! The primary responsibilities of the Quality Lab Supervisor are to effectively ensure compliance to the Danone Quality Assurance system, Food Safety and Analytical Performance Basics, 3rd party audit and certification standards (e.g. FSSC 22000 standards, GFCO, etc.),  internal audit standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., FSMA), support manufacturing operations, develop and improve food safety and quality programs, ensure that all employees maintain good manufacturing practices, collaborate with production, attend various quality meetings, conduct on-the-job trainings, and provide leadership to manage the Quality Laboratory and the Quality Lab Techs who work there.

Responsibilities require stamina and endurance (e.g., standing, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, kneeling, crouching, etc.) for long hours, and the availability to work flexible hours (e.g., late nights and weekends).

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Food Safety & Quality conformity of all products delivered to market, consistently with the overall Plant performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery etc.), and the product specifications
  • Ensure product sent to the market is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as Danone procedures, product, and process specifications
  • Support compliance with finished product Quality & Food Safety Sampling, control plans, and monitoring plans
  • Animate a product superiority mindset in the laboratory team.
  • Support and implement action plans to improve Quality metrics (KPI's) including but not limited to  Consumer Complaints, Spec Compliance and Finished Goods Loss
  • Accountable for laboratory metrology program (calibrations) and PM's
  • Ensure full compliance with the Danone Food Safety Policy and Danone standard's execution 
  • Lead the Food Safety and Analytical Performance Audit and ensure plant is complaint to these standards
  • Ensure Quality & Food Safety is forefront in SOP's and working instructions
  • Support product release and rules for non-conforming product management
  • Organize training, certifications and audits internal & external to laboratory test for technician compliance
  • Facilitate, animate, & communicate Quality & Laboratory Management Reviews and KPI status
  • Be the primary contact for quality in the laboratory and plant.
  • Build and manage the Quality Laboratory Technician Team to meet Food Safety requirements, Danone Standards, and completion of Analytical Performance
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving barriers to success.
  • Communicate and assure the Quality & Food Safety policy execution, including the Escalation and communication rules (timelines, results, monthly reporting)
  • Develop the Quality Laboratory Technicians for career path progression and cross functional skills.
  • Provide leadership and improve quality performance
  • All other assigned duties

About you

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Prefer BS Food Science, Life Sciences, Chemistry or equivalent required
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to interact with all levels of plant personnel and be comfortable working with minimal supervision.  Under minimal direction, works independently toward department objectives.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, interpret, and effectively train others on documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and adjust hours based on factory needs.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Process (GMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
  • Strong computer skills needed including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) along with the ability to complete computer-based trainings.
  • Ability to comprehend, follow, and effectively convey instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Possess the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs and other tools used to track and manage performance metrics.
  • Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets.
  • Must follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Must be self-motivated to conduct the work and self-starter.
  • Energy, resilience, determination, enthusiasm and strong analytical skills to challenge the status quo.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Experience with CIP and cleaning processes.
  • Food or Beverage lab experience preferred.
