We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Legal Counsel to join Danone International Business General Counsel team, dealing with international distribution and commercial negotiations with retailers.

Role Purpose

• This is a seven (7) months mission to cover a maternity leave from October 1st 2026 till April 30th 2027.
• As a Senior Legal Counsel International Business you will partner with our sales team on the international commercial negotiations, engage with a variety of internal stakeholders, support advocacy activities and secure critical licence-to-operate.
• The role requires autonomy, business acumen and strong expertise to operate effectively in a multicultural cross-functional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and secure complex commercial negotiations and agreements with European retailers alliances from risk assessment to drafting and executing pragmatic business-oriented contracts.
• Drive the development and deployment of legal guidelines, templates and training programs and coordinate a network of local legal counsels and business stakeholders across Europe.
• Partner with Public Affairs and local legal teams on the revision of the EU Unfair Trading Practices Directive and other regulatory initiatives impacting supplier-retailer relationships.
• Oversee general legal and compliance matters across the business, providing pragmatic risk-based advice on commercial, real estate, compliance and governance topics, while ensuring alignment with Danone policies and applicable laws.

The criteria below remain indicative. A candidate who has a different combination of experience and skills could also be considered. 

• Master’s degree in business law with a minimum of 8 to 10 years of professional experience, with significant in-house exposure to complex commercial negotiations and cross-functional legal advisory work in FMCG, retail or international business environments.
• Proven expertise in commercial law, French commercial regulations and EU regulatory matters impacting supplier-retailer relationships.
• Strong ability to provide strategic legal analyses, decision-making support and practical recommendations in complex and high-exposure contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead and engage legal communities and build trusted partnerships across functions and countries.
• Full professional proficiency in both French and English. Additional languages would be a plus.
