Position Summary:

The Research & Innovation (“R&I”) Food Scientist II contributes to the research and innovation of the company's solutions with a product scope that is based on the lines that are of powder, liquid and puree products. The position is responsible for the development of product solutions for innovation, productivity, secure supply, quality and compliance with local legislation.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all technical and process aspects of projects from concept to launch. This will require working cross-functionally with many areas of the business to cover aspects such as product composition and product design (puree/tube feeding), packaging and process, legislation, support to costing, manufacturing and technical support to marketing. 
  • Responsible for leading and conducting pilot and industrial tests required for product validation during the development phase in UHT and Retort processes.
  • Design and conduct sensory analyses either with consumers or expert panel to ensure the product meets consumer expectations.
  • Design and conduct shelf-life testing through sensory and laboratory analysis to ensure the right quality until end of shelf-life.
  • Prepare technical dossier approved by a multidisciplinary team required for the registration process according to local legislation.
  • Review and approve artworks in related projects.
  • Work cross functionally and progress to time a portfolio of technical projects.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to the business for new and existing products.
  • Preparation of reports and presentations to senior levels.
  • Pro-actively look for opportunities to innovate via the development and introduction of new process/technologies - an ability to identify technical solutions to new innovative ideas is key to this role
  • Ensure that new and existing specifications comply with functional, quality & food safety and regulatory requirements.

 

 

The base compensation range for this position is $85,000-107,000 commensurate with experience. About you

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge and expertise of process technologies, including in house processes, puree, liquids and powders and ingredient interactions, with FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) or pharmaceutical background.
  • Demonstration of technical knowledge when communicating internally and externally.
  • Strong MS Office knowledge, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Proven creative flair for new product development.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to drive cross-functional project teams.
  • Excellent presentation skills. 
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and enthusiasm to independently.
  • Ability and commitment to see projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team setting.

 

 

Supervisory responsibilities:

The R&I Food Scientist II does not have any direct or indirect reports.


Working conditions:

Work is conducted in an office and warehouse/production environment. There is some lifting of products not to exceed 20 lbs.

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline relevant to food or pharmaceuticals with relevant product development experience. 
  • Master’s degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or Production Engineering preferred. 
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant product development and/or research experience.
  • Strong technical skills on product formulation, industrial processes and manufacturing practices.
  • Comfortable and passionate about creating, rapid prototyping, development and commercialization of ideas under tight timelines.
  • Fluent in English, both written and orally.  Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus.
