We have an opening for a Quality Supervisor based in our Portland, Oregon frozen yogurt manufacturing plant!  In this role, you will support the manufacturing operations by leading the Quality Lab Technicians and ensuring conformity with all Food Safety & Quality standards. You will be responsible for product release and management of non-conformities, managing document controls, and supporting Food Safety and Analytical Performance Audit readiness. Additionally, you will work closely with production operators on all shifts to ensure proper training and procedures are maintained, ultimately ensuring a quality and safe product is produced.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Food Safety & Quality conformity of all products delivered to market, consistently with the overall Plant performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Environmental, and Mobilization) and the product specifications
  • Ensures that the product sent to the market is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as Danone procedures, product, and process specifications.
  • Supports compliance with Quality & Food Safety sampling, control plans, and monitoring plans
  • Supports and implements action plans to improve Quality metrics (KPI's) including but not limited to Consumer Complaints, Spec Compliance, and Finished Goods Loss
  • Accountable for laboratory metrology program (calibrations), Preventative Maintenance (PMs), and coordinating quality lab services.
  • Ensures full compliance with the Danone Food Safety Policy and Danone standards execution.
  • Leads the Food Safety and Analytical Performance Audit and ensures the plant is complaint to these standards.
  • Manages the document control process, ensuring proper ownership of SOPs, Work Instructions, and Policies ensuring all are accurate and current with evolving food safety requirements.
  • Supports product release and rules for non-conforming product management in collaboration with the Quality Manager.
  • Prepares and delivers training, leads plant Quality certifications, and audits internal and external for technician compliance.
  • Acts as the primary contact for Quality in the laboratory and plant.
  • Coaches and develops the Quality Team to meet Food Safety requirements, Danone Standards, and completion of Analytical Performance requirements.
  • Assists with lab responsibilities as needed or requested.
  • Supports the manufacturing facilities with routine, investigatory, and developmental testing.
  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving barriers to success.
  • Communicate and assure the Quality & Food Safety policy execution, including the Escalation and communication rules (timelines, results, monthly reporting, etc.)
  • Communicates to suppliers for raw material non-conformity issues.
  • Manages lab inventory and order supplies when needed.
  • Any other duties or tasks assigned or requested.

About you

 

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, related field, required.  Candidates without a completed bachelor's degree will be considered if they have 5 (five) or more years of quality assurance experience within a food/beverage manufacturing environment. 
  • You have minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment, required, preferably within a food and beverage manufacturing environment. 
  • You have the ability to support a 24/7 production environment, required.  Work schedules can include day, nights or weekends as business needs dictate. 
  • You have demonstrated knowledge regarding food safety, quality, regulation, and laboratory testing 
  • You are proficient in the use of MS Office products.  
  • You have demonstrated excellent communication (verbal, written), presentation skills, leadership, and interpersonal skills. 
  • You have demonstrated strong work ethic and keen awareness to detail.
  • Preferred:  You have professional licenses/certificates such as FSSC 22000 food safety certification and/or HACCP knowledge. 
  • Preferred:  You have the ability to do root cause analysis and have experience with implementing or creating corrective/preventative actions.
