1. Positioning in the organization

 

  • Department: R&I (Research & Innovation), based at Wevelgem Belgium
  • Reporting to: EU R&I Packaging Compliance & Master data manager. Proximity manager will be EU R&I packaging manager

 

2. Background Issue

 

At Danone, Global PB R&I is responsible for the development and implementation of innovations, renovations and product/packaging interaction projects. It thus contributes to the growth of plant based brands in the CBU’s (Cluster Business Units, geographical area from 1 to several countries grouped) by bringing the best products at the best costs.

It ensures the development of projects according to the current processes of the genesis of ideas (phase "Select") until the end of the launch accompaniment (phase "Closure") in interface with the different departments of Alpro and Danone EDP (Essential Dairy and Plant based): Marketing, Purchasing, Industrial, Commercial, Quality, Regulatory.

 

3. Missions

 

The mission of the Packaging Compliance Engineer will be split into two main topics, the food safety homologation of new packaging and the masterdata management:

 

  • Coordinate the overall actions to establish the compliance of packaging placed on the market within the framework of legal obligations and internal DANONE procedures
  • Execution of the food Safety deliverables. The engineer will support R&D engineers by collaborating with global food safety teams, laboratories and pack suppliers.
  • Ensure the validation of the documentation and migration tests according to Danone procedures before any new packaging is put on the market both for Danone & 3PM.
  • Manage the master data of the packaging components (new and periodic update)
  • Creation of the different packaging elements in the system (Optiva PLM)
  • Upload of the specification sheets and Food safety documents
  • Follow up the full validation into the system by the collaborators until go launch
  • Update of the databases (overview spec sheets, composition,…)

4. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure food safety compliance of packaging developed in Europe
  • Contribute to the development of the overall packaging expertise of the service and the business.
  • Assist and advise packaging developers in the choice of packaging tests to ensure food safety compliance of packaging Globally, with focus on Europe.
  • Manage orders to specialized and accredited external laboratories, analyze them and ensure compliance to regulation and Danone requirements.
  • Manage a food safety follow up database to gather information on each validation
  • Align with Packaging Compliance community to share knowledge and way of working
  • Develop supporting tools/ways of working for EU packaging engineers to simplify the development and monitoring of food safety compliance during projects
  • Provide a food safety support for any request
  • Manage the regulatory validation
  • Manage the packaging items in the PLM database according to a specific process: by creating specification codes, uploading documentation, following each step of the validation
  • Manage the documentation update in the PLM database: by requesting suppliers updated documentation and uploading it
  • Provide the requested information to the master data teams & General secretary of the countries where our product is sold

About you

5. Required skills

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the FMCG industry, in the field of packaging
  • Experience in project management and matrix organization

 

Skills:

  • Technical skills in packaging design (knowledge of different plastic materials: PS, PET, PP, PLA... glass, pouches and paper / cardboard, knowledge of the different technologies to manufacture packaging (ISBM, EBM, Thermoforming, labelers, end of lines, cashers, film makers, etc.
  • Knowledge of packaging lines in Danone factories in all categories.
  • Knowledge of packaging regulations in the food industry.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods to develop and evaluate packaging with a consumer experience superior to the competition. (UX methods, DTSV...)
  • Knowledge of regulations and developments on the recyclability of materials, etc.
  • Project management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive, solution- and business-oriented mindset, continuous improvement
