Internship (Research and Innovation): Fermentation Intern

About the job

In this internship, you will be part of the Ferments & Fermentation Team within our Research and Innovation (R&I) department. Our purpose is to develop new processes related to bacteria and fermentation. During this internship, you will collaborate with other teams and provide support on an innovative project. You will screen the addition of various species to yoghurt, whilst monitoring product characteristics. 

 

 

Your main responsibilities include: 

 

  • Performing yogurt fermentation trials
  • Working in a lab and conducting lab analysis
  • Gathering, interpreting, and communicating data
  • Conducting and applying scientific research on yoghurt fermentation literature 

 

 

Meet your future manager! Your manager will be Sam de Jong, Fermentation Technologist. 

About you

  •  You are a Bachelor/Master student currently pursuing a degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Biotechnology, Agriculture or a related field
  • Have strong interest about food science
  • You feel comfortable working in a laboratory
  • Practical experience with microbiology and/or fermentation
  • Skilled in handling data
  • Proficient in excel
  • Excellent communication skills 

 

There are also some compulsory requirements: 

 

 

  • Enrolled as a Bachelors/Masters student during the whole internship period;
  • You are a resident of the Netherlands and hold a valid BSN number (if you are a non-EU citizen, you need to have a valid Dutch residency permit);
  • Ideally available to start in March 2026 for a minimum of 6 months, 5 days per week;
  • You are fluent in English - spoken and written;
  • You are able to work from our Utrecht office, at least 4-5 days per week.
