At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams.   We are currently looking to hire a Production Lead-Swing Shift based in Springfield, OR!  

 

WHY WORK HERE?

This position is responsible for leading employees through organizing daily tasks and provides guidance and encouragement to produce the highest quality products. Works with a team of employees to ensure proper standard operating procedures are being carried out and plant and team goals are being met. Follows all safety procedures as stated in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety standards, Danone and plant rules, and Danone’s code of conduct.

 

  • Starting Wage of $32.57 per hour with annual increases as negotiated by Teamsters Local 206.
    • Additional shift differential of 50 cents/hou
  • Swing shift hours:  1:45 PM to 1030 PM, Monday-Friday

In this role, you will be responsible for: 

 

The following responsibilities outline the core expectations and contributions for this position:

  • Maintains a safe working environment, functioning as a member of a cooperative team and encourages participation in leading safety work.
  • Responsible for ensuring production safety and quality standards are being followed by team members.
  • Complies with all company and safety policies and practices, including lockout-tagout.
  • Responsible to conduct self and encourage coworkers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Company mission, values, code of conduct, and company policies.
  • Coordinates the work of production personnel to meet daily business objectives.
  • Coaches and mentor’s employees with multiple skill sets and personalities and participate in training assessments with supervisor.
  • Cooperatively works with cross-functional groups at all levels to solve production problems.
  • Ensure all production documentation is complete and accurate and converts relevant information into daily shift report and effectively communicates information to all relevant parties.
  • Provides break relief and operates machinery when needed, as trained.
  • Depending on assigned area, performs all duties for the given area, e.g., of Machine Operators I – III, Mix Room Operators/Pasteurizers, and/or Material Handlers.
  • Depending on assignment:
    • May support scheduling of inbound/outbound trucks for deliveries, transfers, and daily picks. May work with company’s PIV impact management software and attend various meetings to communicate and receive pertinent business information.
    • May support scheduling of mix batches, staging ingredients for batches, Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and Food Safety Preventative Maintenance (FSPM). May help create, review, and edit Standard Operating Procedures, One Point Lessons (OPL’s), and Visual Standard Work (VSW) documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

 

Physical Demands

  • This role requires:
    • Constant standing/walking for extended periods, throughout an 8-hour shift.
    • Frequently performs repeated reaching with the hands, employing manual dexterity.
    • Working in temperatures below 50 degrees and short periods of time working in temperatures at or below 0 degrees with protective clothing provided.
    • Regularly lifting 45 pounds to various heights (32, 40, and 70 inches).

 

Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may be exposed to loud noises in the plant. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • Wears personal protective equipment daily; continuously reaches, pushes/pulls; frequently twists; occasionally stoops/bends; intermittently crouches, climbs, and balances; uses hands for repetitive fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and simple grasp; and talk and hear under noisy conditions. Visual acuity and taste to discern product variation.
  • Working conditions frequently includes a cool indoor food production environment and occasional freezer environment, and intermittent outdoor environment. Clean environment, requiring hand washing every time you go on the floor 20+/- times a day.
  • The employee is exposed to both a general office environment where the noise level is usually moderate and manufacturing environment where noise levels are moderate to high.
  • Work schedules could include nights, weekends and/or holidays to provide the ability to support a 24/5 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, experience, and skills that enable them to excel in this position. The following qualifications outline what we’re looking for, including both required and preferred criteria:

 

Education & Experience (Required):

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Candidates must have six months of mechanical training or processing experience along with demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Capable to become Company certified in the use of electric and manual pallet jacks.
  • Capable to become Company certified in the use of a forklift.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (keyboarding, MS Office) and knowledge in the use of SAP and WMS preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Proficient in problem solving and able to participate and lead Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) activities.
  • Demonstrated use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
  • Demonstrated comprehension of written or verbal instructions, schedules, ingredients, recipes, safety procedures, emergency procedures, chemicals labels, graphs, charts, and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate specific information using verbal and simple hand signals to team members, peers, supervisors, and other internal/external people in a noisy environment.
  • Must be able to adjust schedule to support 24/5 manufacturing, may include working hours outside of a typical shift, including weekends as needed.
