R&I Packaging Engineer - Europe (1-year fixed-term contract)

YOUR responsibilities as a Packaging Engineer will include (but not limited to):

• Drive a portfolio of packaging innovation, renovation, and competitiveness projects from brief to launch in collaboration with local R&I, Marketing, factories, and suppliers.
• Develop primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions that deliver strong consumer value, meet sustainability and circularity ambitions, and comply with internal quality and food safety requirements.
• Prepare and refine packaging briefs using holistic design principles, ensuring all functional, regulatory, and supply chain needs are defined.
• Coordinate and execute industrial trials across EU factories, manage supplier interactions, and oversee test planning, cost control, and issue resolution.
• Ensure project delivery in line with quality, cost, and timing expectations using Danone tools and methodologies.
• Identify new ideas and contribute to long-term packaging roadmaps together with Advanced Tech and European Packaging teams.

We are looking for a Packaging Engineer with the following profile:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Packaging Engineering or other relevant field).
• 1-2 years of experience in FMCG, ideally in packaging development.
• Understanding of packaging materials (plastics, paper, cardboard) and manufacturing technologies such as ISBM, EBM or thermoforming.
• Experience in project management within a matrix organization.
• Knowledge of packaging regulations, sustainability requirements, and recyclability developments.
• Strong analytical mindset, proactive, and solution-oriented.
• Flexible, collaborative, and comfortable coordinating multiple stakeholders.
• Fluent in English and Romanian (spoken and written).
• Experience with packaging lines or industrial trials is an advantage.
