About the job

We have a fantastic vacancy for a strong Boiler Operator to join our state-of-the-art production facility in Balclutha within a versatile team. In this role, you will take ownership of operating and maintaining the biomass boiler, training staff on autonomous maintenance, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the boiler. You will also assist with project work to enhance plant capability and efficiency. Reporting to the Line Shift Lead, you will ensure maximum production quantity, quality, and compliance while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.

This is a permanent full-time position working a rotating shift of 2 days, 2 nights, and 4 off with a total guaranteed 42 hours per week.

 

You will:

  • Contribute actively to creating a safe work environment by participating in health and safety programs to achieve a zero-harm workplace.

  • Ensure high levels of awareness and understanding of all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on the biomass boiler.

  • Keep accurate records and documentation, including booking parts out of the store and accounting for time spent on tasks in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Assist the Maintenance Planner and Technical Lead to execute the maintenance plan and keep track of progress.

  • Act with a sense of urgency in dealing with incidents causing production downtime or wastage.

  • Coordinate engineering and electrical contractors to assist with maximizing plant uptime and minimizing costs.

  • Train production staff in basic maintenance tasks related to the biomass boiler.

  • Manage and optimize the preventive maintenance for the biomass boiler to ensure the preventive maintenance plan adds value and remains cost-effective.

  • Identify equipment failure modes and help the Technical Lead and Maintenance Planner review the PM plan periodically.

  • Help with the rollout of new technology on-site for preventive maintenance or condition monitoring.

  • Take the lead on troubleshooting complicated issues and arrange for backup support from contracting and automation companies.

About you

To be successful, ideally, you will have:

  • Minimum of Enchem 3 boiler or New Zealand recognised steam qualification.

  • Experience in operating and maintaining biomass boilers or similar equipment.

  • A high level of fault-finding ability and the capability to work and make decisions without supervision.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as a team player.

  • Technical expertise in biomass boiler operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.

  • Knowledge of CMMS, preferably SAP.
