Summer Internship (R&I): Product Design & Development

About the job

As a Product Design & Development Intern, you will support the team during the busy summer period with hands-on activities in the sensory lab and product analysis workflows.

This internship offers you the opportunity to gain practical experience in an R&I environment, contributing directly to ongoing product design and development projects. This internship is not linked to a thesis; it is a hands-on, immersive experience created to help you learn, grow, and support the team during key project phases.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Supporting sensory and product design projects through sample preparation, testing activities, and basic data handling;
  • Assisting with routine lab operations to ensure analyses run smoothly and efficiently;
  • Helping organize samples, materials, and documentation in line with lab standards;
  • Contributing to the initial analysis of sensory and product-related data under guidance from team experts;
  • Support and attend pilot trials under the supervision from team experts;
  • Collaborating closely with the Product Design & Development team during a high-activity period.

Meet your future manager!

Your manager will be Rafaela Raymundo, Senior Product Design & Development Manager.

About you

You are a Bachelor or Master student in Food Science, Sensory Science, Nutrition & Health, Biology, Chemistry, Product Design, or another relevant technical field. You enjoy hands-on work in a lab setting and are comfortable following procedures and working with precision. Experience in sensory or lab work is a plus, but not required.

You are:

  • Available from June–August (starting in May is a plus);
  • Not completing a thesis during the internship;
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and eager to learn;
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced R&I environment;
  • A proactive team player with good communication skills.

This internship gives you a unique opportunity to experience what Product Design & Development within Danone looks like, and to build valuable hands-on skills for your future career.

Key requirements:

  • Enrolled as a Bachelor's or Master's student for the entire duration of the internship;
  • Resident of the Netherlands with a valid BSN number. Non-EU citizens must have a valid Dutch residency permit.
  • For non-EU citizens, your university must sign a three-party agreement with Danone.
  • Available to start in June/August for a minimum of 3 months, 5 days per week.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Able to work from our Utrecht office.
