At Danone, manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams.   We are currently looking to hire an EHS Specialist based in Minster, Ohio!  

 

The primary responsibilities of the EHS Specialist are to help lead safety, environmental and health processes to create a safe and secure work environment while controlling direct costs, meeting customer expectations, ensuring safe and environmentally responsible and sustainable work practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in driving our mission forward. The following responsibilities outline the core expectations and contributions for this position:
  • Develop Company Safety, Security and Environmental Compliance Programs and vision utilized by all workers to understand and employ safety, environmental and security policies.
  • Develop a common understanding of Dannon's Safety process (called WISE), defining goals, clarifying scope, and defining leadership skills and competencies required by all.
  • Manage the site's Lock Out Tag Out program (LOTO)
  • Lead the development of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, evaluating and reducing hazards.
  • Assure the development and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs.
  • Support capital projects and investments that improve safety and environmental performance
  • Manage and allocate resources to lead and support the safety systems.
  • Develop safety measurements using continuous improvement tools and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure completion of incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Create, audit and implement necessary programs and projects across site in support of permitting & compliance (i.e. OSHA, EPA, site / occupancy planning, chemical storage, noise surveying, air quality, wastewater discharge, SPCC, etc...).
  • Be involved in Ammonia Refrigeration Management program, Tier II (Chemical Inventory), TRI and Waste Program (hazardous and non-hazardous).
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • May require stamina and endurance (e.g., standing, sitting, walking, etc.) for long hours
  • Must be available to be on call & work flexible hours (e.g., late nights, weekends, off shift).
  • Responsibilities that may require the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moderate noise and temperature variations.

Work schedules could include nights, weekends and/or holidays to provide the ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate. 

 

Engagement in our Integrated Work Systems

Ensure adherence to plant standards and procedures (including but not limited to GMP, AIB, FDA, IWS, Quality, Safety, Finance, ISO, HOPE, Danone Behaviors, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE). As a fundamental piece of the organization, your responsibility is to participate and own the implementation and deployment of IWS system and its pillars (Leadership foundation, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE; Autonomous Maintenance; planned Maintenance; Focused Improvement; Education and Training; Environmental, Health and Safety; Quality; Organization; Supply Network; Early Equipment Management) with the objective of owning your space, owning your performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Mobilization, Nature) and owning your continuous improvement.

A propos de vous

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, experience, and skills that enable them to excel in this position. The following qualifications outline what we’re looking for, including both required and preferred criteria:

 

Education & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational safety, an Environmental concentration, Chemistry or related field and 2+ years of experience in safety or environmental management in an industrial setting, required. 
  • Candidates without a completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in the above fields will be considered if they have 5 or more years of relevant EHS industry work experience and have a completed high school diploma or GED.  
  • Prior experience in a food/beverage manufacturing experience is preferred; supervisory experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Prior experience and knowledge of Lockout Tagout program management.
  • Proven track record of implementing effective EH&S programs with positive results.
  • Knowledge of appropriate federal, state, county, city, and institutional regulations regarding food processing operations and have familiarity with OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Good problem-solving techniques including knowledge of LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Effective training techniques to wide ranging audiences and are comfortable in creating and delivering presentations in front of large audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial and hands-on abilities - committed to innovation and moving beyond the norm.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and actively takes steps to drive change who is also organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate.
