At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams.   We are currently looking to hire an Environmental Health and Safety Manager based in our Minster, Ohio yogurt manufacturing facility.   

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 
In this role, you will report to the Senior Plant Director, and will lead safety, security, health, and environmental processes for the site to ensure that the Company provides a safe workplace for employees and minimizes impacts to the environment.  This position will lead compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and will drive EHS performance improvement and efficiency with the purpose of creating a secure work environment, controlling direct costs, meeting customer expectations, and ensuring safe work practices. You will be responsible for directly leading EHS functions in support of the overall facility / business mission and strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Development of company Safety, Security and Environmental Compliance Programs
  • Creation and support of EHS vision utilized by all workers to understand and employ safety, environmental and security policies.
  • Develop a common understanding of the WISE² Safety process defining goals, clarifying scope, and defining leadership skills and competencies required by all
  • Leads the development of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, evaluating and reducing hazards
  • Assures the development, and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs
  • Manage and allocate resources to lead and support the safety systems
  • Develop safety measurements using Integrated Work System (IWS) tools and providing recommendations and coordinating with the Facility Management Team and the Corporate Team to address key priority issues in the facility
  • Ensure completion of incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Create, audit and implement necessary programs and projects across site in support of permitting & compliance (i.e. OSHA, EPA, site / occupancy planning, chemical storage, noise prevention, air quality, WWTF, SPCC, etc...)
  • Facility Response Plan (USEPA) and Risk Management Plan.
  • Participate in the Process Safety Management program, manage the Environmental Reporting and Waste Management Program.
  • Primary point of contact for all Local, State & Federal EH&S related officials.
  • Site Security Plan and Audit Control Program.
  • Waste minimization and Recycling.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may be exposed to loud noises in the plant.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and vibration.

About you

Education and experience (requirements)

  • A High School diploma or GED is required.  A bachelor’s or master’s degree in safety, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or related field, is preferred.
  • Must have 7+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment, required.  Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Must have prior experience managing effective EHS programs with positive results.  

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of appropriate regulations (federal, state, county, city and institutional) regarding food processing operations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, ISO 22000, ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Good problem-solving techniques including knowledge of LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proven success managing within a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective training techniques to wide ranging audiences.
  • Ability to work within a union plant.
  • Entrepreneurial and hands-on; committed to innovation and moving beyond the norm.
  • Self-starter, takes the initiative, an intelligent driver of results.
  • Personable, collaborative, and passionate about their work.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Highest level of integrity and ethics
  • Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate.  Work schedules could include nights and weekends as business needs dictate.
