Job Summary

At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams.   We are currently looking to hire an EHS Intern based in West Jordan, UT!  

The EHS Intern will support Environmental Health and Safety initiatives in a yogurt manufacturing plant through various activities including Lockout Tagout procedure creation and auditing, chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet management, noise dosimetry, and operator training.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in driving our mission forward. The following responsibilities outline the core expectations and contributions for this position:

• Providing support to the Lockout Tagout manager to create missing LOTO procedures.
• Create contractor and visitor video/online training so they have the information necessary to stay safe at our plant.
• Auditing current LOTO procedures to ensure accuracy.
• Reviewing our online database of SDS’s to ensure all SDS’s are filed correctly.
• Conducting noise dosimetry and updating the Noise map of the plant to include new equipment and areas.
• Assisting with new hire orientation training and other EHS trainings, as required.

Physical Demands

• Standing, walking, bending and stooping (at waist level), kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting (at waist level and at the neck).
• Tasting, smelling, seeing (including colors), speaking, and hearing, within a normal range to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and results.
• Working up to 12-hour shifts in production areas with a usually moderate noise level.
• Occasionally climbing stairs, step ladders, or stools.
• Using fine motor skills to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, and controls.
• Occasionally lifting, from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., and occasional team lifting or more than 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• Work will be performed in a manufacturing environment with usually moderate noise levels and will involve standing/walking on a concrete surface for the duration of your shift.
• Regularly working indoors, near moving mechanical parts and will be occasionally exposed to cold, wet, and/or humid conditions, as well as going outdoors (infrequently).
• Occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and may be exposed to loud noises in the plant.
• Occasionally work in high, precarious places and may be exposed to extreme cold, the risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
• Work schedules could include nights, weekends and/or holidays to provide the ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as business needs dictate.

Engagement in our Integrated Work Systems

Ensure adherence to plant standards and procedures (including but not limited to GMP, AIB, FDA, IWS, Quality, Safety, Finance, ISO, HOPE, Danone Behaviors, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE). As a fundamental piece of the organization, your responsibility is to participate and own the implementation and deployment of IWS system and its pillars (Leadership foundation, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE; Autonomous Maintenance; planned Maintenance; Focused Improvement; Education and Training; Environmental, Health and Safety; Quality; Organization; Supply Network; Early Equipment Management) with the objective of owning your space, owning your performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Mobilization, Nature) and owning your continuous improvement.    

Compensation & Benefits:

Base compensation for this position is $25.00/hr.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, experience, and skills that enable them to excel in this position. The following qualifications outline what we’re looking for, including both required and preferred criteria:

Education & Experience:

• You must be a Junior or Senior, or recent graduate of an Industrial Hygiene or Safety related degree program.
• Previous work experience in food manufacturing is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to operate in a team environment and adapt in a changing work environment.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills with a proven ability to handle multiple projects with conflicting deadlines.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees at all levels, including janitorial, management, and executives.
• Ability to follow direction and work independently.
• Excelling written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong math, computer and logic skills.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Excellent organization skills.
