Hello! I’m Mike

I’m a Shift Leader

Even though I'm a manager, I don't necessarily experience it that way. I’m part of the team, I'm often found on the factory floor, and I don't feel a sense of hierarchy. Working in our factory in Haps for almost six years now has been great fun. And yes, as a Brabander, now living in Veenendaal, this place does feel a bit like coming home.

From day one, I noticed that work is done here with tremendous care. Whatever you do, you always realize that you are dedicating yourself to vulnerable babies and small children; mistakes can have serious impact. Since becoming a father myself, I realize even more the impact our work has.

To watch my team members develop themselves and enjoy their work is more important to me than the amount of kilograms we produce. In my role, I feel like a confidant. I foster connections and monitor the team vibes and job satisfaction. Having one of my operators leave and tell me that this was the best team he ever worked in, well, as a team lead there is nothing more rewarding than that.

Trying out new things

Even though I'm not very handy, I recently led two major maintenance shutdowns in our factory. Stepping out of your role from time to time brings new insights, and besides, it's just a lot of fun. If things don't go as expected, you're not criticized but instead, you work together to find ways to improve. I really appreciate the fact that Danone offers these opportunities and provides the space to try out new things.

Over the years, I’ve grown from process operator to facilitator and shift manager. Due to Danone’s open culture and company atmosphere, I feel very free to express what I want and how I see the future. Whether it's moving up the ranks or taking a sidestep to another branch or department, I know I still have plenty of options here at Danone
